Chandra Deep Field South ======================== The Chandra Deep Field South is centered on: RA(ICRS) = 03 32 28.2 Dec(ICRS) = -27 48 36 We are releasing two merged data sets of CDF-S observations. Dataset 1: Entire 52 CDF-S observations for a total exposure of 3.8 Ms Dateset 2: 31 observations taken in 2010 for a total exposure of 2.0 Ms Previously merged datasets (2000 and 2007) are also regenerated for consistency. We cleaned ACIS background events in level 1 processing (by setting check_vf_pha=yes in acis_process_events to utilize a 5x5 pixel event island available in VFAINT mode) for 2007 and 2010 data. This background screening also removes cosmic-ray afterglows. For 2000 data (taken in a FAINT mode), we could not apply the VFAINT screening. Instead, we applied a CIAO tool, acis_detect_afterglow, to remove cosmic-ray afterglows. We have also refined astrometry based on the matched source positions and reprojected onto a common tangent plane (using a CIAO tool, reproject_aspect). We used obsid 9575 (taken roughly in the middle of the entire observing period) as a reference. The relative offsets (from obsid 9575) for individual observations are listed below for reference.
