AUXBIN -- This directory contains a miscellaneous collection of prebuilt utiltity programs for A/UX, copied from my system. The criteria for selecting what was included here were that 1) it might conceivably be useful, 2) it must be self-contained, i.e., when installed, it does not require that files be installed all over the place before the utility can be run. Unfortunately some of the most important utilities could not be included because they do not meet this criteria and would be too difficult to install and run without detailed instructions (you can still get them off the net and build them yourself). I have tried to include needed runtime files such as man pages or resource defaults files where needed. If you don't know what a particular utility program is and can't figure it out from the files provided, you probably don't want to use it. In many cases, newer versions of these utilities than what is provided here may be available on the net. THIS SOFTWARE IS PROVIDED AS-IS AND IS NOT SUPPORTED BY THE IRAF PROJECT. Nonetheless, I hope it will be of some use. Regards, Doug Tody 1 May 1993 Notes 1. A program such as "foo" is the executable. "foo.n.z" is the nroffed and "pack"ed manpage for A/UX. You put this somewhere where MAN can find it and it will know how to display it. "foo.ad" is the X applications defaults file. This is renamed to, e.g., "Foo" and placed in a directory somewhere in your applications defaults search path. If you don't have a path set up, you can put the file in the directory /usr/lib/X11/app-defaults. A "*.tar.Z" file is used if there are too many files to be placed individually in auxbin. 2. When there are two versions of a program in the archive, e.g. xarchie xarchie-1.3 the most recent version is the one with the short name. I update these as new versions are generated.
